During the history of the Christian church, with the first coming of Christ already in the past, the study of the hope of the coming focused on the return of Christ.

This book analyzes the understanding, role, and importance of the Second Coming in the lives of believers and in the teachings of the church during the most relevant periods of its history. To gain a clearer understanding of the events that led to the establishment of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, *The Hope of the Second Coming in Scripture and History* recounts the story of the Great Awakening of the Second Advent (chapter 8). Furthermore, it reviews the theological place of this doctrine in history and in the practical life of God's people. The hope of the Second Coming in contemporary Christian thought is also addressed (chapter 10). The volume concludes, most appropriately, with an exposition of the theological significance of the hope of the Second Coming.
