To convey this desire, Bernard Sauvagnat decided to organize his text into two parts. For the first, he chose the form of a novel whose main character is Luke, the presumed author of this work. The scenes he describes are therefore products of his imagination. He thus imagines Luke deciding to transform himself into Sherlock Holmes to investigate the life of Jesus and the mission of his disciples; and into Doctor Watson to write up the results of his investigations. For the second part, his text resembles a presentation of each of the major sections of this gospel.
