When once asked if he ever doubted his Adventist faith, Clifford Goldstein replied that he didn’t doubt much any more but, if he did, he quickly dismissed it as “irrational.”

“Irrational?” the person responded incredulously.
“Yes,” Cliff continued, “because considering the things that I believe, and the experiences that I have had—to doubt is the most irrational thing that I can do.”

For the past forty years, Clifford Goldstein has been a known entity in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Some love him, others (to put it nicely) are less than enthusiastic. Either way, through his writings, editing of the Adult Bible Study Guide, and preaching, Goldstein has been a presence among us.

Though, for decades, he has recounted his own personal “Damascus Road” experience, what isn’t known so well is how, within four years of becoming an Adventist, he went to the General Conference, where he has been since 1984. This book tells not just that story, but more importantly, it recounts the theological and spiritual journey that has led him to find it “irrational” to doubt.

“Though in little danger of forgetting how I came to Christ (or rather how He came to me),” Goldstein writes, “because I tell that story all the time, I haven’t talked much about how I wound up where I am and, for better or for worse, do what I do. If the Lord doesn’t come back before I end up dead, or in a nursing home staring at the ceiling, drooling, my index finger hitting ‘delete’ over and over, I better get it all down, for whatever it might be worth.”

What’s it worth? Read An Adventist Journey and decide for yourself.
